Escritora estadounidense. Interesada en captar los estilos de vida populares de una cultura en extinción, Jewett compuso retratos realistas de los envejecidos nativos de Maine, cuyos hábitos, modismos y expresividad registró con mordacidad y humor. Entre sus 20 obras destacan Deephaven (1877), A White Heron [Una garza blanca] (1886) y The Country of the Pointed Firs [El país de los abetos puntiagudos] (1896).
